Pile #2 · Weird

Weird websites to visit when bored (they actually exist)

Weird websites are not always funny and not always pointless. They are the ones that make you tilt your head. An illustration that zooms forever without arriving. A horse whose legs keep scrolling. A button that shows you a live view out of a stranger’s window.

We file a site as weird when the idea behind it is more interesting than the thing it does. Most of these strange websites are small experiments by artists and developers who wanted to see what would happen, and then left them online for the rest of us.

Every one of them is real and still working. If you are bored, pick one at random or play the Weird path and let the junkyard choose.

  1. Cameron’s World

    LEGENDARY

    💾 Old Internet

A giant collage of rescued GeoCities pages.

A love letter to the old internet, built from text and images dug out of archived GeoCities homepages from 1994 to 2009. Scrolling through it feels like walking past a million forgotten bedrooms.

  2. 💾 Old Internetest. 2005

A million pixels sold for a dollar each. It actually worked.

In 2005 a student sold ad space on a single page one pixel at a time, a dollar per pixel. It sold out. Today it is a patchwork of tiny logos, many pointing at websites that no longer exist.

  3. Zoomquilt

    LEGENDARY

    🌀 Weirdest. 2004

An infinite painted zoom that never, ever arrives.

A collaborative painting stitched together so every scene hides the next one inside it. The camera keeps zooming. You keep watching. Neither of you gets anywhere.

  4. 🌀 Weird

Please click the button. It is watching how you do it.

A single button and a list of achievements. The page tracks everything about how you behave and comments on it, which is funny until you remember every other website does the same quietly.

  5. Floor796

    RARE RELIC

    🌀 Weird

One enormous animated sci-fi floor packed with hidden references.

A giant pixel-art style animation of a space station floor, drawn by hand and expanded over years. Zoom in anywhere and you find tiny jokes, cameos and scenes happening at once.

  6. Infinite Craft

    RARE RELIC

    🌀 Weirdest. 2024

Start with water, fire, wind and earth. Combine until nonsense.

Rafaël Rozendaal’s web tribute to a famous early readymade: a bicycle wheel mounted on a stool, casting its shadow on a white page.

  9. 🗑 Pointlessest. 2024

A million shared checkboxes. The internet checked them all.

A giant grid of checkboxes that everyone on the internet shared at once. Strangers ticked them together until every single box was checked. You can still play with them alone.

    RARE RELIC

    🌀 Weird

  11. Pointer Pointer

    RARE RELIC

    🌀 Weirdest. 2012

Move your cursor. Somewhere, someone is pointing at it.

  16. WindowSwap

    RARE RELIC

    🌀 Weird

  37. 🌀 Weird

The current time, held up by a stranger in a photo.

Websites drawn as circles in space, sized by traffic and clustered by how they link to each other. Zoom around and find the tiny planet you visit every day.

  39. 🌀 Weird

Free hugs from strangers, delivered by video.

  40. 🌀 Weird

The official homepage of a salmon. Thanks for visiting.

  41. This Is Sand

    UNCOMMON

    🌀 Weird

Pour digital sand into little layered landscapes.

  42. 🌀 Weird

  43. Yes No If

    UNCOMMON

    🌀 Weirdest. 2014

A soft gradient that asks nothing and answers nothing.
